Embrava + Johnson Controls

Johnson Controls runs the building. Embrava runs the desk and the door. A smart building optimizes for the people in it, and Embrava is the hardware that knows where those people actually are, fed back as real occupancy without changing the workplace platform you already run.

Two layers, one floor

Who does what.

Johnson Controls and Embrava work on different layers of the same building. Johnson Controls is the building-technology platform that runs HVAC, automation, security, and smart-building and space management. Embrava is the desk- and room-level hardware that makes a booking visible on the floor and turns a check-in into ground-truth occupancy.

Johnson Controls

The building platform

  • HVAC, energy, and building automation
  • Building security and access systems
  • Smart-building and space-management intelligence
  • The systems that optimize how the building runs
Embrava

The hardware on the floor

  • Desk Sign and Room Sign at the point of use
  • Color status light readable from across the floor
  • Badge, NFC, Wallet, QR, and touch check-in
  • Ground-truth occupancy fed back to your platform
How it fits together

The building optimizes. Embrava supplies the truth.

A smart building can only be as smart as the occupancy data it runs on. You can optimize HVAC, energy, and space all day, but the decisions are only as good as your read on where people actually are. Embrava captures that at the desk and the room. A reservation made in your booking platform shows up on the Embrava sign in real time, and when an employee checks in, by tapping a badge, an NFC phone, a Wallet credential, a QR code, or the screen, that check-in flows back as a ground-truth occupancy signal. The floor plan, the device, and the schedule stay in sync.

Nothing about your building stack has to change. The integration runs through the Embrava platform, which is platform-agnostic and works with the workplace booking system you already run. There is no middleware, no rip-and-replace, and no new login for employees. Johnson Controls keeps managing the building. Embrava supplies the desk- and room-level presence the building optimizes around.

What Embrava adds

What a smart building gains with presence on the floor.

Occupancy from the source

Every check-in is a ground-truth occupancy and utilization signal captured at the desk or the door, not inferred. That desk- and room-level truth is the input smart-building decisions actually depend on.

Check-in employees already have

RFID badge at 13.56 MHz and 125 kHz, NFC phone, Apple or Google Wallet, HID Mobile credential, QR, or a screen tap. No app to install, no new credential to issue.

Availability you can see across the room

A color status light shows free, reserved, or in use from across an open floor, so people stop hovering at closed doors and squatting on the wrong booking.

Rooms and desks, one vendor

Room Sign for meeting spaces and Desk Sign for hot-desking and hoteling, both driven by the same booking schedule, both managed from one place.

Common questions

Embrava and Johnson Controls, answered.

Does Embrava work alongside Johnson Controls smart-building systems?
Yes. Johnson Controls runs the building, the HVAC, the automation, the security, and the smart-building and space layer. Embrava adds the booking and presence hardware on the floor: Desk Sign and Room Sign that show reservations and capture check-ins. Embrava integrates through its own platform with the workplace booking system you run, so the two layers complement each other rather than compete.
Do I have to replace anything to add Embrava signs to a Johnson Controls building?
No. Embrava is the desk- and room-level hardware layer that sits behind the booking platform you already run. Johnson Controls keeps managing the building; Embrava signs surface bookings at the desk and the meeting-room door and capture check-ins. There is no rip-and-replace, no middleware to maintain, and no new credentials for employees.
How does Embrava help a smart building make better decisions?
Smart-building decisions depend on knowing which spaces are actually occupied. Embrava captures that at the source. Every check-in at a Desk Sign or Room Sign is a ground-truth occupancy signal, by RFID badge, NFC phone, Apple or Google Wallet, HID Mobile credential, QR code, or a screen tap. That desk- and room-level truth tells you where people really are, which is the input smart-building optimization is built on.
Is the integration between Embrava and the booking platform bi-directional?
Yes. A reservation made in your booking platform appears on the Embrava sign in real time, and a check-in made at the sign feeds back to that platform. The floor plan, the physical device, and the schedule stay in sync. Embrava is platform-agnostic, so it works with the workplace platform you run rather than locking you to one.
Does Embrava cover both meeting rooms and hot desks?
Yes. Room Sign mounts outside meeting spaces with live availability and on-the-spot booking; Desk Sign sits on hot desks for tap-to-claim hot-desking and hoteling. Both are driven by the same booking schedule and managed from one place, so a Johnson Controls building gets room- and desk-level presence from a single vendor.
